Who should take the MHFA Refresher Course?
This course is for qualified Mental Health First Aiders (who have taken the two-day MHFA England course) and are approaching the 3-year anniversary of passing this course, or for those who have an equivalent Level 3 Mental Health Qualification.
MHFA England recommends that all delegates refresh their skills every 3 years, just like a physical first aider would.
Please note, this course is designed specifically for delegates and businesses that are based in England. The resources and guidance refer to public health information that is specific to England. Whilst delegates from other countries can attend, their role should involve supporting delegates based in England.
Scotland and Wales both have separate organisations for MHFA, based on respective national guidelines. For more information, please visit their websites:
Scotland MHFA – www.smhfa.com
Wales – www.mhfawales.org
What kind of Qualification is this?
This course has been developed by MHFA England, which is part of the worldwide Mental Health First Aid organisation.
MHFA England is the only recognised provider of Mental Health First Aid in England.
Here at New Leaf Health, we have a variety of highly experienced practitioners who have trained as instructors with MHFA England. As such, the course we offer is the official Mental Health First Aid Training Course, licensed by MHFA England.
Upon completion of the course, you will be recognised as a qualified Mental Health First Aider for a period of 3 years. You can continue your qualification by taking a MHFA Refresher Course every 3 years.
How many people can attend the course?
In our open courses, we train up to 25 attendees at a time, all from a range of different organisations. You can book up to 7 places on an open course. If you’ve got 8 or more delegates you’d like to train, it’s usually more cost-effective and efficient to book a private course for your business.
Find more information on our private MHFA Refresher courses here.
Book Your Place
All places are provisional until confirmed by us. Once you’ve submitted this form, we’ll email you a booking form to confirm delegate details and invoicing information.

More Information on MHFA Refresher Open Courses
What is an open MHFA refresher course?
This is a type of course format where, rather than training delegates just from one organisation, we have delegates from multiple organisations train together.
This helps us achieve the minimum number of delegates for a course (8 for the the MHFA Refresher Course), whilst allowing individuals and small groups to get a qualification, without footing the bill for a full 25-person course.
This is particularly handy if you’re a small business with only one or a few MHFAiders, or if you have people that need a refresher at different times.
Does this course qualify me as a Mental Health First Aider?
No, this course is only for those with an existing MHFA Two-Day qualification, or an equivalent Level 3 Mental Health Qualification. It renews your existing MHFA qualification.
How long is the MHFA Refresher Course?
This is a half-day course last 4.5 hours. This session is completed all in one go on the same day, usually a morning or afternoon.
Is this the official MHFA England Course?
Yes, this course is certified by MHFA England. All of our trainers are fully qualified MHFA England trainers, and have vast experience in training delegates in the workplace.
How often to you run MHFA England open courses?
It varies based on demand, but we tend to run at least one MHFA Refresher open course per quarter, so around four per year.
