Workplace Counselling Services vs Employee Assistance Programmes (EAP)
As a business you may have an EAP available to your staff, with a problem-focused counselling service included. Whilst this can be a useful tool, it’s not the same as offering dedicated workplace counselling services, as we explore in the table below.
| Benefit | Workplace Conselling Services | EAP |
|---|---|---|
| Service Scope | Highly-focused theraputic conversations, with a view to creating long-term success. | Short-term counselling offered, in addition to other resources. |
| Depth | Deep exploration of issues (if required), through building a working relationship with therapist. | Solution-focused to provide immediate practical coping steps. |
| Duration | As long as necessary, ideal for ongoing issues or deeper problems. | Limited sessions available (usually 3 - 6) focused on problem solving. |
| Accessibility | Scheduled in advance, allowing for a planned approach around work schedules. | Usually available 24/7 via telephone or live chat conversations. |
| Availability | Available when needed using a consistent therapist, so they feel embeded in the team. | Third-party provided service, usually with an annual per-head spend commitment. |
| Engagement Rate | Appointments are planned and scheduled, ensuring full engagement. | Only around 3-5% of employees make use of their EAP service at work. |
5 Important Benefits of Workplace Counselling
Most of us will be familiar with counselling. If we haven’t engaged with it personally, we’ll at least have an idea of what it involves from TV shows and movies. But what about workplace counselling? The good news is that…
Clients of all sizes and budgets love working with us
I have finally taken back control of my life
“I have never sought help before and I wasn’t even sure I had a big enough issue to seek help. However, I have learnt so much about myself and I wish I had done this years ago – I am extremely grateful for my employer for funding these sessions, they have been invaluable and I feel like I have finally taken back control of my life.”

She helped me when I was feeling vulnerable
“The counsellor has taught me some lifelong skills to help me tackle those low points, not only with myself but also valuable skills that I can instill in my young children as they grow. She helped me when I was feeling vulnerable and she has turned this around for me. I feel fortunate to have been given the opportunity to take advantage of this service.”

More Information on our Workplace Counselling Services
What do workplace counsellors do?
Workplace counsellors offer confidential support to employees who are experiencing issues that could impact their mental wellbeing and performance at work. Counsellors work with individuals to find practical solutions to make positive changes to their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, both in and outside of work.
Who is workplace counselling for?
We recommend offering workplace counselling services to everyone in your organisation, regardless of role or seniority. No matter what level someone works at, they could be struggling with work-related or personal issues that are having a knock-on impact on their wellbeing and performance.
- Remote employees could be lonely and missing daily social interaction.
- Senior management may feel the pressures of responsibility, leading to difficulty sleeping.
- New employees could be struggling with imposter syndrome, meeting new people, and getting to grips with the job.
- Long-term employees may be experiencing burnout, especially if they’ve been carrying high workloads for extended periods.
- Staff returning to work from long-term sickness or maternity leave may need support in readjusting to the workplace.
How are employee counselling sessions delivered?
Our employee counselling sessions are primarily delivered by phone or video call. This means that an employee just needs access to their phone and a WiFi connection to speak to the counsellor, making it easily accessible to anyone, no matter where they work.
Our approach is flexible, however – we can also run face-to-face sessions in the workplace if this is the most suitable option for your employees.
What kind of qualifications do you workplace counsellors have?
Our workplace counsellors are fully-qualified and registered therapists.
In addition, they have extensive experience in dealing with not only personal issues, but issues that stem from the individual’s working and professional life, too.
What other workplace wellbeing services do you offer?
We cover all aspects of workplace wellbeing, offering corporate workshops to help raise awareness of physical wellbeing, mental health and wellbeing issues, and wellbeing training which equips staff and managers with the tools to better support themselves and their colleagues. Examples of these services include workplace menopause support, suicide first aid training, and mental health first aid training courses.
