How Numatic Delivered Health Checks at Scale in Manufacturing
If you don’t recognise the name, you’ll certainly recognise their products. Numatic is a leading manufacturer of commercial and domestic cleaning equipment, most famous for household vacuum cleaners like Henry and Hetty.
Being a manufacturer, wellbeing is a primary concern for Numatic, as there are many risks present in the industry. One of the main obstacles for implementing wellbeing initiatives in this sector can be different shift patterns – which can also contribute to health risks for the employee, too.
To help prioritise the health and wellbeing of their staff, we worked with Numatic to develop an approach to employee health checks that would allow staff to be tested across different shift patterns, meaning the initiative was accessible to everyone, not just those working a daytime shift.
Key Outcomes
- 400 employees received blood pressure and body composition testing.
- 300 employees received cholesterol and blood glucose testing.
- Checks were delivered to both day and night shift workers over two weeks.
Challenge - Accessible wellbeing for everyone across different shift patterns
Numatic’s manufacturing facility has staff on-site 24 hours a day working different shift patterns. This presents a couple of interesting challenges when building a wellbeing strategy, primarily:
- How do you make your wellbeing initiatives accessible to everyone, day or night?
- Night shift workers can be more prone to specific health conditions, so looking after their health and wellbeing is particularly important.
Numatic approached New Leaf Health to help address this challenge and, through collaboration and innovation, we developed a Health Check approach that would tick all of the boxes.
Solution - Fitting Employee Health Checks around Numatic's shift patterns
Most of our clients operate during typical business hours. But we know that manufacturing can be a different beast, so to speak, and often requires a completely different approach. We were certainly up for the challenge when Numatic approached us.
The initial question we asked ourselves was: ‘How can we cover all shifts, including nights, most efficiently, whilst still keeping Numatic’s budget realistic and cost-effective?’
The solution was two-fold: a mix-and-match approach to testing, and empowering Numatic staff to conduct some of the tests themselves.
Firstly, we looked at shift coverage – how could we see as many people as possible. Rather than run a typical 09:00 – 17:00 health check day, we varied our shift patterns to match. We did a couple of days of 08:00 – 16:00, as well as 15:00 – 23:00, so everyone could have the opportunity for a facilitated health screening.
We ran these on different days, too, so that each of the four shift groups would have the opportunity to book in for both body composition testing, as well as blood glucose and cholesterol testing.
The second approach we took was the real game-changer. Our Health Check Point (body composition testing) equipment is fairly easy to use. So our on-site practitioner trained some of Numatic’s Workplace Wellbeing Champions on how to use the equipment and to guide staff through the tests, meaning we could leave the equipment there for anyone to use, even when our practitioner wasn’t on-site. In other words, Numatic’s staff had 24-hour access to their key health stats, without needing specialist knowledge.
We provided a tracking sheet for attendees to record their results on, which also explains every result and what it means in detail. For example, a staff member with high blood pressure would be able to see that their result presents a risk, and know that they should re-test it a couple of times, then visit their GP if it’s still high.
Stats like blood pressure are particularly key for night shift workers, who can be at risk of high blood pressure, so having this testing available to them was incredibly useful, and key in Numatic’s health and wellbeing promotion goals.
Result - Excellent engagement and a great atmosphere
From our personal perspective at New Leaf Health, this is one of our favourite projects that we’ve worked on. Collaborating with the team at Numatic was interesting, challenging (in the fun way), and exciting from the get-go, and the results speak for themselves.
Over 700 tests were carried out over the course of two weeks. Around 400 body composition tests (including ones performed by our practitioner, as well as the self-led ones) took place, with around 300 face-to-face health screenings too. This means that, through Numatic’s wellbeing programme, hundreds of people have been reached and their lives potentially changed by learning their key health stats and getting to talk to one of our practitioners about risks, results, and their health goals.
Numatic ran these checks in conjunction with their wider Health Fortnight, which included many other health and wellbeing topics, such as cancer, smoking, nutrition, weight management, physical activity, and more, plus flu vaccines, too.
Here’s what Wellbeing Officer Luke, who spearheaded the programme, had to say:
“Our October 2025 Health Fortnight with New Leaf Health and a wide range of other stakeholders was a huge success. From planning through to delivery, New Leaf were flexible and supportive, helping us meet the needs of a large 24 hour manufacturing operation. Their follow up data analysis offered valuable insight into the health of our workforce and is now shaping our plans for 2026.
The enhanced health checks, including blood glucose and cholesterol testing, empowered colleagues to take charge of their wellbeing, leaving many feeling more informed, motivated and supported to make positive changes.
Combined with practical workshops and personalised guidance, the initiative strengthened healthy habits and reinforced our culture of wellbeing, creating a positive and lasting impact across the organisation.“

Here at New Leaf Health, we love being presented with wellbeing challenges, big or small, and this project was no different.
We were delighted with the opportunity to work with Numatic (we’ve always wanted to meet Henry), and the programme they organised serves as a perfect example of how employers in the manufacturing sector can support the health and wellbeing of their staff regardless of how their business operates.
