What is Suicide First Aid?
Suicide First Aid is designed to give workplace volunteers the skills and knowledge to address the difficult topic of suicide at work.
Suicide First Aiders will be able to identify someone who may be contemplating suicide, intervene in a safe manner, then get the person to further help.
The course focuses on the stigma around suicide, the causes that can lead to suicidal ideation and behaviour, and the processes required to keep everyone involved safe, utilising appropriate boundaries.
What is the Format of the Suicide First Aid Course?
Our open Suicide First Aid Course takes place over the course of one day, between 09:00 – 17:00 (with breaks and lunch).
Our open courses are a great option for organisations who only want to train one or a few staff. On the day, you’ll train alongside delegates from a variety of UK businesses – a great opportunity to share knowledge and insight.
What are the learning outcomes?
The Workplace Suicide First Aid Course teaches the skills and knowledge needed to identify someone who may be thinking about suicide and competently intervene to help create suicide safety as a first-aid approach.
Learning outcomes include:
- Looking at the stigma around suicide.
- Exploring suicidal thoughts and their causes.
- Discussing suicide safely.
- Building confidence to support someone considering suicide.
- Recognising suicidal behaviours and how to respond.
- Safeguarding and self-care.
- Plus much more.
What kind of Qualification is Suicide First Aid?
Suicide First Aid is an independent qualification developed by Suicide First Aid UK. Attendees who successfully complete the course will receive a digital ceritificate of attendance to confirm their status as a Suicide First Aider.
Delegates have the opportunity to extend their learning and qualification independently after the course has finished. This is through an external body, and usually involves a written exam.
The course instructor will provide more details on the next steps at the conclusion of your course.
