New Onsite Vitamin D Testing Service

7 March, 2017

Recent research suggests 1 in 5 people in the UK has low Vitamin D levels1

New Leaf Health are now delivering a service that will help companies improve the above statistic. This is because between October to March many people will not get enough Vitamin D from sunlight, due to having very little or no sunshine exposure.

The Department of Health recommends that you should take a daily supplement containing 10mcg of Vitamin D if you fall into the following categories:

  • People with darker skin tones in the UK – Asian, Afro-Caribbean and Middle Eastern population
  • People that do not get enough exposure to sunlight, including factory, shop and office workers and in particular those that are regular night-shift workers.
  • Pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers

New Leaf Health recently completed over 200 tests at The Phoenix Group.  During a four-day period, the results gathered by our Health Professional, Andrew Lee-O’Neil, backed up the current NHS recommendations that everyone should consider taking a daily supplement containing 10mcg of Vitamin D.

Andrew educated the Phoenix Group employees with his of knowledge of Vitamin D; informing those who may not have even been aware of what Vitamin D is, or the effects to the body if deficient.

Many members of staff were surprised at their low results, as they live an active lifestyle, spending time outdoors and have taken holidays abroad.  One attendee stated:

‘I expected to be a little low but not as bad as I was; however, I was put at ease by the tester and I am now confident that I can improve my score by visiting my GP.

The project Coordinator within the Phoenix Group, Lucy Symonds, stated;

‘The event has generated discussion around wellbeing in the workplace and I am pleased that we can keep our wellbeing programme fresh and innovative by offering Vitamin D testing.’ And ‘from those that have spoken directly with me, this has been a useful exercise, and one we would consider repeating on a bi-annual basis.’

All of the feedback which was gathered from the event was extremely positive, with one employee stating:

‘The test was fast, efficient, and professional, and the tester was very knowledgeable and friendly.’
